DayGlow Columbia 2012
This is still my favorite aftermovie to date. If you ask me what I do for work this is the video I will show you.
It’s funny, this video started out as a complete mess. When I started with DayGlow I was told I had roughly a 10 day turnaround from when I got the footage till when the video was done. But amongst those 10 days it is important to turn in drafts so that everyone is on the same page. This means that right around day 5 you want to be turning in your first draft of the video for feedback and corrections. This particular week I told DayGlow that I would be able to do two concerts at once and so I decided to really bust out the first draft on Columbia and get things going as fast as possible. “Busting out” the first draft resulted in long clips during the buildups instead of fast clips with strobe transitions that really fit the mood. The buildup and climax of the song are the biggest traits of the song usually and because I had put clips that didn’t fit in the most important parts of the song, the first draft was a disaster! Needless to say I had some corrections to do, but I am glad I put the work in because as I said, this is my favorite to date!
I learned from the experience. Put in the necessary work to get the best result! If it takes one extra day to perfect the edit, do it. Don’t upset your client!
