Slightly Stoopid and Tomorrow’s Bad Seeds at Higher Ground in Burlington, VT
I check out the Champlain College facebook filmmaking forum quite often and one day I saw a post from Tom Lamson asking for help on a concert shoot. Tom is a film student at Burlington College and he is making his own TV show called My Electric Kingdom, which documents bands and concerts in the Burlington area. Eventually we set up to meet for the Slightly Stoopid show at Higher Ground and started with an interview of each band. I had not met Tom previously and his knowledge for all ranges of music really blew me away. Tom asked some great questions that delved into the history of each band and I think even the band members were a little surprised with Tom’s knowledge. I had heard of Slightly Stoopid before but not listened to a lot of their music, needless to say I walked out of the concert huming the tunes.
This was a great show to shoot despite some headaches with Higher Ground security and poor lighting of the crowd (forcing my focus to shoot only the bands for a majority of the show). However, it was expected in at a small venue, the great crowd shots typically come with larger venues and thus more powerful lighting packages.
Needless to say I had a blast and I am glad I tagged along.
